Furniture Trends To Try in Your Home for 2012

Friday, January 27th, 2012

January of 2012 is pretty much over and I have to ask – have you been able to stick to your New Years resolutions? If one of the things you hoped to change this year is your living space or home decor, what are you waiting for!? Here are the furniture trends to try in your home for 2012!

When preparing to re-decorate your home, it is important to look ahead at upcoming trends so that you don’t end up with outdated designs by the time you are finished. Lucky for you, we did the hard work for you and put together this list. Another great tip to keep in mind: pair your furniture trends with timeless pieces that will never go out of style.

  • Tuft it Up – This trend has begun to re-emerge more and more over the past couple of years and is beginning to gain a lot of popularity again. What? You don’t know what “tufted” is? Well, you should. “Tufting” refers to threading through layers of fabric or leather, often in a pattern, and securing the ends with a knot or button. These clusters are then known as tufts. Look for especially contemporary and modern versions of these pieces with clean lines to fit the current trend. Check out this gorgeous, dreamy bedroom with a tufted headboard:

  • Reclaimed Materials – Being eco-friendly and green isn’t just trendy, it’s smart too. Using reclaimed materials in your home is a great way to cut down on waste. Look for pieces made from reclaimed beams, barn wood, and old flooring. Metals, glass, and wood are all great materials to use. You can get creative and create one-of-a-kind pieces like tables, chairs, headboards, etc. out of these materials. Recycled glass is extremely inexpensive and can be used to decorate in many different ways. Check out these cool design ideas made from recycled and reclaimed materials:

  • Global Influences – Oriental architecture, specifically, will be very popular in 2012. Look for pieces that are reminiscent of Japanese temples in designs for all your rooms of your home this year.
