Nothing says comfort like a hotel bed. There’s just something about those soft sheets and impeccable design that makes you feel more rejuvenated and relaxed after a good night’s sleep.

Whether you’re staging your house for sale, or just want to make your bed a little more cozy, bring that hotel feeling home. Take a few tips from some of the top places to sleep, and discover how to make your bed like a hotel in three simple steps.

First things first, gather your supplies. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Top sheet
  • Bedspread or comforter
  • Pillows and pillow cases
  • Decorative pillows
  • Blanket

Step 1: Build the foundation

bed made to look like a hotel

You’ll notice there’s no fitted sheet on this list. That’s intentional — hotels use two flat sheets to make you feel like you’re wrapped inside a burrito.
Lay the sheets together and smooth them both over the bed. Next, make hospital corners at the foot of the bed. If you don’t know how to fold hospital corners, this video will teach you in less than a minute.

At the top of the bed, separate the two sheets. Fold more hospital corners with the bottom sheet. Take the top sheet and fold it back toward the foot of the bed.

Now that you have a snug, solid foundation for your luxe hotel bed, it’s on to step two.

Step 2: Add Decorative Flair

This step is exactly the same as making your bed any other day. Grab a plush comforter or bedspread and lay it across your bed. Smooth it out evenly across the bed, and fold the top back.

Next, place your pillows. Slip them inside your pillowcases, and stand them up against your headboard. Adjust your folded comforter so it touches the edge of your pillows.

Step 3: Finishing Touches

hotel bed pillows

By now, your bed looks expertly made, but it’s not quite ready yet. Grab your decorative throw pillows and place them in front of the pillows that are already on the bed.

Next, take your blanket and fold it in half. Then, fold it in half again so it forms a narrow rectangle. Lay the blanket across the foot of the bed to create a runner.

There you have it — a bed worthy of a 5-star hotel. If you’re looking to give your bedroom a more comprehensive makeover, contact us today at Signature Furniture Rental. We offer personalized furniture rentals and decorations that will transform your home into a luxury retreat.

5 Simple Tips For Staging Bathrooms

Wednesday, May 24th, 2017

Rule number one of staging your home for sale is to create an atmosphere where prospective buyers can see themselves. In most rooms, creating a blank slate is easy. Minimize your decor, rent some modern furniture, add a fresh coat of paint, and you’re ready to go.

Staging bathrooms, however, is a little more tricky. Most people won’t spend as much time looking at the bathroom, but that doesn’t mean you can forget it. The room’s intimate nature means you’ll have to be a little more thoughtful.

Keep these five tips in mind as you prepare your home to sell.

Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind

Because a bathroom is such an intimate space, it’s twice as important to create an uncluttered space.

Start by removing any personal mementos like photos. Clear the clutter from the counters. Stash your cleaning products and toiletries in cabinets.

The end result is a crisp, clean bathroom that makes it easy for someone to imagine themselves in.

Set The Stage

Staging your bathroom to create a spa-like, elegant atmosphere is a sure-fire tip for success. Give the room a neutral color palette, add some modern door handles and cabinet knobs, and keep it simple.

Buy some ultra plush towels and roll them up to create a luxurious feel. Fill a glass container with some bath salts to craft an atmosphere of relaxation.

Do stage your bathroom in a neutral color pallette. Paint the walls in a light color, and coordinate the rest of the room. You can’t go wrong with white towels and a shower curtain with a simple pattern.

Little Luxuries

Instead of doing a full-scale remodel of your bathroom, consider doing some smaller upgrades.

Give the room a modern update by replacing small things like the faucets on your sink and bath, shower curtain, and bath mat. Place clear containers filled with cotton balls and Q-Tips on the counter to add a bit of neutral decoration. You can even add a fresh coat of paint.

These tiny tweaks will give the room a fresh, new look without a lot of time, effort, or money.

Keep It Simple

A good rule of thumb for staging bathrooms is to keep it simple, especially if you’re working with a smaller space. You don’t want to draw unnecessary attention to your bathroom, so avoid bold colors, heavy fragrance, or avant garde wall art.

When decorating your bathroom, choose solid colors or simple patterns. Small baskets of sea sponges or a few candles are also great way to add some decor while keeping a polished look.

Clean Your Bathroom

You spent all this time, and maybe even some money, staging your bathroom. Don’t let your hard work go to waste by forgetting the most important detail!

Give your bathroom a deep clean. Scrub your shower and toilet, wash the walls, clean inside the light fixtures, and polish the floors and mirror. If you have tile, be sure to scrub the grout.

A Brief History of the Loveseat Couch and Its Uses

A Brief History of the Loveseat Couch and Its Uses

The loveseat couch is such an iconic staple of the living room furniture set that we often don’t stop to think about where it came from. What are its origins? Did people always have two couches in their living room arrangement? Are there different types of loveseats? For home stagers and interior decorators, these questions are important for understanding how to set up a room properly. Read on to learn about this important furniture item:

Where Did the Loveseat Couch Come From?

The origins of the loveseat stretch back to the 1600s, when the earliest loveseats were invented. They were generally designed to allow women to sit down and smooth out their large dresses, which were fashionable at the time. The wide seating space provided extra room for the clothing and fabric.

In the U.S., the term “loveseat” first began being used during the 19th century, when people started using these wider seats for romantic courting purposes. These types of smaller couches encouraged closer seating for conversation and socializing. Later, in England, the term referred to theater seats with a removable armrest to provide closer seating in theater houses.

Today, the term “loveseat” basically refers to any small sofa, and they are typically used as a matching piece to a larger family-sized couch. The average family-style sofa is usually around 85” across, while love seats typically measure around 60”.

A Brief History of the Loveseat Couch and Its Uses

Modern-Day Loveseat Uses

For a long time, loveseats were usually limited to the living room or family room, and were almost always paired with a larger sofa counterpart. However, nowadays people are using loveseats in more and more creative ways. People recognize the value of loveseats — they provide the comfort of a cushiony couch, yet are small and easy to move and fit into various spaces.

Some modern uses of loveseats include:

  • Small-space seating
  • Seating for informal meetings in an office space
  • Comfortable seating in a video game corner
  • Cozy reading spot seating

Most loveseats are fitted with two cushions (one for each person). Some loveseats feature one long cushion, which can feel more comfortable for one person stretching out and reclining with a nice book.

Other Loveseat-Related Furniture Items

Some other sofa and loveseat-related items include:

  • Divan: A longer couch that is often designed to double as a bed. Often made without a back or armrests.
  • Ottoman: A small upholstered footstool that often has a hinged top to form a lid. Usually used in conjunction with sofa seating or a recliner chair.
  • Futon: A mattress that is filled with cotton and can be used as either a couch or a bed.
  • Sectional Sofa: A type of sofa formed from 2 to 4 sections that join at different angles to wrap around walls, furniture, and other objects. Sometimes called a “sectional.”
  • Settee: A type of upholstered seat that can be used for more than one person, and typically has a back and arms. Usually higher seat height than a sofa.

Regardless of the types of sofas and furniture being used, loveseats make a wonderful complement and provide extra seating in a non-intrusive way. May Flower Decorations to Beautify Your Home or Office

May Flower Decorations to Beautify Your Home or Office

As spring continues to march forward, it’s a great time to adjust your interior decoration and home staging themes accordingly. One decoration theme that fits perfectly this time of year is flower decorations. By incorporating different flower themes into your decor projects, you can really bring out the springtime freshness for your home.

As the saying goes, “April showers bring May flowers.” Last month, we blogged about “April Shower” decor themes. This month, check out these “May Flower” decoration ideas for your home or office:

Classic Flower Basket

Nothing quite says “springtime” like a classic flower basket. A small open wicker basket will do the trick quite nicely. Simply lay some flowers in the basket, along with a small item like a plaid table napkin, and you’ve got a charming centerpiece that works wonders in the dining area and living room.

For your basket, you can choose any simple spring flower, but white flowers often work the best for May flower decor purposes. White varieties like freesias and hydrangeas will really brighten up and freshen up your basket piece. And, of course, you can’t go wrong with a bunch of classic white daisies.

Flower Decorations in a Jar

Another decor idea is to place your flower decorations in a jar rather than a vase. This gives your arrangement a more compact, space-saving feel, and creates a unique look that’s great for bathrooms and other smaller spaces. Feel free to add some rocks to your water as well. Whether plain or colored, the rocks create cool-looking base layer to complement the flowers above.

This season, orchids will be a major trend for May flower decoration themes. While long-lasting orchid plants are popular year-round, they make for excellent choices for spring interior decor and home staging purposes. Their simple, unintrusive look is elegant and refined, and their non-bulky size will keep your centerpieces from looking cluttered.

For May and spring decor choices, classic white orchids look great, as do some of the deeper purple and violet shades.

Flower Prints

If you can’t get your hands on some actual flowers, flower prints can help you achieve that “May flowers” feel in a jiffy. Some convenient places to use flower prints include:

  • Tablecloths and placemats
  • Curtains
  • Bedsheets and beddings
  • Towels and shower curtains
  • Welcome mats

Lastly, vintage botanical prints are super popular as well, and they can also be informative when the scientific names are included.

Color Choices

Keep your flower decor consistent by tying it together with a color theme. Any ribbons, trim, jars, etc. can use the same color combinations, which makes your presentations neat and tidy. This season, shades of blue, muted copper, and rose golds will be popular, so you might want to consider these for your arrangements. Of course, the choice is yours — just make sure you’re consistent!

These flower decorations are a starting point to put you on the path towards fun spring decor activity. You can use these to create your own variations and put your own special touch in your home and office areas. Experiment with These 5 Fun and Easy DIY Bathroom Projects

Do-it-yourself (DIY) bathroom projects are a fun and easy way to liven up your bathroom space.  Bathroom items tend to be inexpensive, and the space is relatively small, so the projects also tend to be cost-effective. Also, you can do several projects all at once for a complete makeover, or stick to just one or two DIY projects.

Here are few DIY bathroom projects that you can try out and have fun with:

Message Candles

For this project, you’ll need some thicker candles that come in a glass case. Simply choose a message, and write in on the glass! Greetings and inspirational quotes work very well for bathroom message candles. You have several options here — you can paint directly onto the glass, use metallic paint pens, or use stencils. If you have a set of candles, you can paint one letter on each candle to form a word (sort of like baby blocks).

Bathroom Pallet Shelves

As we’ve mentioned before, DIY upcycled pallet projects are super easy, and are a fun introduction to basic woodworking. The good thing about pallet projects is that you can size them perfectly to fit in your bathroom space. You can make them wider or taller as needed, and can pretty much design the shelf space as you please.

DIY Industrial Pipe Bathroom Shelves

Along with DIY pallet projects, another upcycling project that’s perfect for bathrooms is industrial pipe shelves. Industrial pipes are strong, sturdy, and functional. You can saw them short to make little hanging nubs on the wall, or you can use them as the framing for a more traditional shelf. And, of course, the wood that you use for the shelf can come from pallets as well!

Industrial pipe shelves work excellent for bathrooms with lots of wood or stone accents and can add a nice rustic, vintage touch.

Mason Jar Storage

One of the things that can make a bathroom look messy is when supplies are strewn about all over the place. To remedy this, you can use mason jars to organize items. These are perfect for loose supplies like Q-tips and toothbrushes; they also work well for storing lotions and creams, soaps, and other liquid items. These can also be decorated with paint and other materials, and many of them now come in different colors.

If you’re not feeling the whole mason jar thing, you can opt for other jars — just make sure they’re uniform and you’ll get the same effect of eye-pleasing orderliness.

Ceramic Milk Jug Plant Pot

Milk jug plant pots are a popular item nowadays, and they look absolutely great in a bathroom setting. They work well for both real and artificial plants, and create a nice country/home-style vibe for your bathroom area. As with the message candle project, you can also paint a message on this jug-pot creation of yours!

Another idea is to have several small milk jug plant pots instead of just one. This creates a more distributed, less imposing look that’s perfect for smaller bathrooms.

With just a little bit of care and attention, your bathroom can benefit greatly from a few DIY projects. It’s also an excellent way to practice and hone your crafting and decor skills!
