Home Theater Tips to Maximize Your Entertainment

Home theater and entertainment setups have come a long way. All the different options can sometimes be daunting, but with some planning, you can truly maximize your space for an awesome viewing experience. Some simple home theater tips can point you in the right direction and make sure you’re taking advantage of all that your room and equipment have to offer. Read on to learn more:

Most Important Home Theater Tip: Find the ‘Sweet Spot’

For both visual and audio aspects of your home entertainment system, there is what is known as the “sweet spot.” This is the best spot in terms of both seeing the screen and hearing all the wonderful sounds. Walk around the room and test to see what works best. Understand that some people might not end up with the best seat in the house; however, the best seats should be fully optimized for visuals and audio.

Note: Finding the right spot is especially important for viewing 3-D movies. Make sure the seat is centered and that your backrest is fully upright. Tilting your head too far one way can seriously mess with the 3-D effect, so be sure you are in the optimal position for the effects to take hold.

Get Comfy With the Seating

One of the most important features of any theater is the seating. A common complaint in Yelp reviews about cinema houses is, “The screen and the sound were amazing, but the seating was just too uncomfortable.”  If you’re trying to transform your living room into a theater, then your own private seating is just as important.

Be sure that your seating can accommodate all your guests, and that it’s plush and comfy enough for long flicks. For instance, if your couch is worn out, it might be in your best interest to go for a sofa upgrade. For luxury features, you may want to equip your seats with extra cushions and pillows for maximum comfort.

Audio Selections

A huge part of your home theater experience is the audio. Depending on your tastes and the size of your place, you may want to consider different audio setups:

  • Sound Bars: These provide a central source of sound that is usually better than the ones built into TVs. They can also save a lot of space compared to bulkier speaker units.
  • Portable Speakers: These can allow you to place the speakers anywhere you like and relocate them very easily as you see fit.
  • Optical Audio: Certain types of cables and ports utilize fiber-optic technology to support amazingly clear high-definition sound. Check to see if your TV or sound system supports this option.
  • Headphones: These can work wonders for times when you need to be quiet. Also, wireless headphones allow you to sit anywhere you want in the room and still get great sound.

Mind the Bass

If you’ll be incorporating earth-shattering bass speakers, be sure you mind the space surrounding the subwoofer. For instance, loose items on a shelf or frames hanging on a wall can buzz and vibrate with the bass, and this can be annoying during your “screenings.” Also, really loud bass has been known to shatter glass and other delicate items, so make sure you have no fragile items directly near the bass. Other than that, enjoy the boom!

Set Out Some Snacks

What would a movie-viewing experience be without some snacks? For the snack lovers, it may be helpful to set up an end table or a sofa table for easy access to your snacks and drinks during movie times. If you’re really into it, you can set up a small, old-fashioned popcorn popper in the corner — an added bonus is that you get that theater house popcorn smell!

By following these easy steps, your home entertainment and theater setup will really start to pop. Reward yourself with a relaxing viewing experience and with an entertainment system that makes the room look better visually. Interior Design Trends for 2017

As 2017 rolls around, it will bring with it new trends for home furniture and decor.

  • DIY/Upcycling projects: Rescued and upcycled furniture projects will continue to be popular in 2017. Keep at it! It can help you save a lot of money on home design.
  • Metallics & stainless steel: Stock up on everything shiny! These can complement most rooms with their neutral colors, without being too flashy.

New Year Furniture and Decor Tips for Home Sellers

If you plan on selling your home soon, you should understand the importance of properly preparing and staging your home. A well-staged home will spend less time on the market, resulting in a higher selling price and a greater return on investment for you. No one wants to buy a dull and uninteresting home. Try out these staging and decor tips:

  • Provide some holiday cheer during the home tour: Set out some sugar cookies, pop a little sparkling cider, and make sure the house is warm and toasty.
  • Don’t overdo the holiday decor: While some trim here and there is nice, you don’t want to over-decorate to the point that the home’s natural beauty is muffled.
  • Consider replacing old and worn furniture with new furniture rental sets.
  • Silver and gold work well for color themes during this time of the year.

5 Simple and Easy Winter Home Decor Ideas for 2016-2017

5 Simple and Easy Winter Home Decor Ideas for 2016-2017

Just because it doesn’t snow here in San Diego doesn’t mean that you can’t get into the winter spirit! When it comes to winter decor trends, simpler is often better. Here are some easy-to-do winter home decor ideas that can really transform your home into a winter wonderland:

Bring the Outdoors Inside

If you notice, a lot of winter decor has to do with the outdoors: trees, wreaths, mistletoes, snow, etc. Take things a step further and bring some actual outdoor items inside and rework them into lovely decor. Pine cones and twigs work especially well here, as do logs and small tree trunks. These can be painted, stained, varnished, or just left natural to add a bit of freshness to your indoor setup.

Cabin/Ski Lodge Look

This theme is perfect for dens or living rooms! Transform your lounging space into a rustic getaway with some hanging antlers or a fur rug. Emphasize the fireplace and hearth with some hanging garlands to draw attention to the warm spot in the room. You may also want to consider adding more wood furniture, especially with your table and chair setup.

Finish it all off with a plaid throw blanket on the couch for functional, practical decor. Plaid scarves can also be used for some out-of-the-box touches.

Bring on the Brass

While the winter season is often associated with gold touches, brass works equally as well. The rich, deeper color of brass can really complement the evergreen candle holders, tea pots, brass reindeer and other figurines/sculptures, bells, and other items. It adds a touch of metal that is down-to-earth and not too gaudy.

Tip: Brass instruments can work well here too — put your old trumpet or flugelhorn on display!

Winter Treat Displays

It’s been a long-standing principle that food can be decorative as well as delicious. In particular, winter snacks can add a very charming and subtle touch to your living room or dining room. Set out some hot cocoa, S’mores, egg nog, or chocolate truffles to suggest a feeling of warmth and cozy toastiness in the space.

Tip: Throw some candy canes in your hot cocoa for added winter effect. The best part? You can eat the decor and come up with new ones everyday!

Small Figurines

Ceramic figurines are making a big comeback this year. Well, they never really went anywhere, but they appear to be a hot item this season. We suspect that with all the technology and phones, people love to return to simple items that you can touch (but don’t break!) and observe without having to find in an app.

Popular figurine choices of course include reindeer, snowmen, and trees. A surprisingly effective figurine choice is a small ceramic log cabin (works especially well with the cabin theme mentioned above).

As you can see, this year’s overall trend is to move towards a more traditional, old-time decor feel for the winter months. Try your hand at these ideas and see what variations you can come up with!
